Orbitiles

Rotations create patterns. Vast options for custom compositions.

Also known as FreePattern, a name which is more or less obsolete due to commercial confusion of the word “free” as representing “gratis” rather than “at liberty,” the Collection is the intellectual property of Edward Borlenghi.

One tile design with nearly limitless options.

Orderly rotations create patterns by grouping tiles.

Random rotations create organic, non-repetitive compositions.

Instructions for Blast-off

  • The collection below begins with a single tile at the top-left corner.

  • Next to it is a grid of four arrows, where the up arrow represents the orientation of the single tile.

  • Below the arrows are four groups of the four tiles, creating a pattern of 16 tiles.
(Group four tiles then repeat the group four times.)

Change the orientations within the four-tile group, and the overall composition changes.
Increasing the number of tiles in the group exponentially increases the number of possible patterns.
